It all started with a little puppy and a search – a search through the internet and local stores for a mesh safety gate that could rewind out of the way when not in use. Not finding anything other than the traditional pressure mounted or bulky swinging baby gates, the search then turned to building one which then led to our founder, Marc Pichik, designing and developing the Retract-A-Gate product line along with the manufacturing processes for what would become the Smart Retract company, established in 2002.
As time went on and the company grew, we began shipping product from our facility in Dubuque, Iowa, where we manufacture the gates, to customer locations all around the globe. 100% of what we sell is Made in the USA by us, the Smart Retract team.
With a focus on smart retractable products for homes and businesses, our products include the original Retract-A-Gate brand retractable safety gates for kids and pets as well as the Bow Wow Barrier, a retractable pet safety barrier for exterior doors that helps prevent cats and dogs from escaping outside. Additionally, the Safe Railing Guard, which is a mesh barrier that can help keep children and pets from slipping through indoor and outdoor railings.
